Osceola, January 30, 2026

On January 29, 2026, 56-year-old Kevin Walter Duda was found guilty of first-degree murder. After the trial, he was sentenced to life in prison. On June 12, 2024, deputies from The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office responded to The Ponderosa RV entrance on Fortune Road, to reports of a man lying on the ground, unresponsive.

The victim, Nicholas Brank (6/1/1980) was transported to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Kevin Duda was identified as a suspect and was located in the area and arrested. The investigation revealed that the suspect and victim knew each other and had been involved in a verbal argument the year before. A confrontation occurred when Mr. Duda obtained a handgun and saw the victim. Nicholas Brank was shot and killed, as he was unarmed and unable to defend himself. Through an intense investigation by homicide detectives, video surveillance and a witness were located as well as the murder weapon.

The great work of homicide detective Benjamin Maclean as well as the entire homicide team led to a successful prosecution of Mr. Duda.
