Academy Sponsorship – Deputy Sheriff.
Job Description
The sponsored recruit will attend a law enforcement academy that introduces them to the fundamentals of law enforcement and prepares them to become a deputy sheriff with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office. The recruit will participate in classroom lectures covering topics such as criminal law, laws of arrest, traffic laws, juvenile law, principles of law enforcement, rules of evidence, and rules of search and seizure. They will also receive instruction on patrol theory and methods, report writing, and vehicle operation skills. In addition, the recruit will observe demonstrations on arrest and control techniques, as well as the care and use of firearms; participate in physical conditioning and defensive tactics training; and complete written and practical examinations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- You must be a U.S. Citizen.
- You must be at least 20 years of age.
- You must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
- You must have a valid driver’s license.
- You must not have body ornamentation or tattoos on the face, head, neck (above the collar), and hands (below the wrist).
- Successfully pass the CJBAT for law enforcement.
- No marijuana usage in the past 12 months. No usage of other controlled substances in the past 36 months.
- Successfully pass a physical agility test (PAT), truth verification exam, medical physical examination, and drug screen examination.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English is a key requirement for this position.
Preference will be given to applicants with a 4-year degree, and/or four years of military experience.
