Teen Arrested for Misuse of Laser Light Device
Osceola County, Florida – On May 10, at approximately 8:31 p.m. the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit was in the area of Sanibel Drive in Kissimmee when deputies observed an unknown individual point a laser light at them. Deputies were able to locate the source of the laser which was coming from 658 Captiva Circle.
When they arrived at the residence, deputies spoke with the homeowner who indicated her son had recently purchased a laser light. They questioned her son, identified as Detraun Vaughan and he cooperated with the investigation.
Based on his statements and the evidence, Vaughan was arrested and charged with Misuse of a Laser Light Device. He was taken to the Orange County Juvenile Detention Center and released to his parents’ custody.
Laser beams may cause eye damage or distraction. Misuse of a Laser Pointing Device is a third degree felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison or a $5,000 fine.
