Shooting Investigation

UPDATE: The suspect has been identified as Carlos J. Garcia Petrovich D.O.B. 10/21/79. On Saturday, May 20, 2017, at approximately 11:30 P.M., Osceola County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of the Florida Turnpike near MM 200, in reference to a report of a possible drunk driver. A deputy was able to spot the vehicle near MM 196 and stopped the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, described as an adult male, was not cooperative and fled from the traffic stop. The deputy checked the area and spotted the driver at the Pilot gas station (3050 E. SR 60 in Yeehaw Junction). The deputy approached the driver to place him under arrest, but the male was uncooperative and fled on foot from the gas station. The deputy pursued the suspect and made numerous attempts to take him into custody, but the driver became violent. During the physical fight, the deputy fired his service weapon, hitting the suspect. The suspect was later pronounced deceased at the scene. This is an ongoing investigation being conducted by The Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The deputy was treated at a local hospital for injuries sustained during the altercation and has been released. The suspect has not yet been positively identified.
