Search Continues for Missing Boater

Osceola County, Florida – Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies, in conjunction with the Fish and Wildlife Commission and St. Cloud Police Department are continuing to search for a boater who went missing on East Lake Tohopekaliga Monday afternoon.

On May 25 at approximately 5:45 p.m.. Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the St. Cloud Marina in reference to a possible drowning. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the witnesses who indicated three adults and two children were on a boat on East Lake Tohopekaliga. A 46-year old male went into the water to assist one of the children who was in distress. The male was able to get the child back on the boat. When the others on the boat looked into the water, the male was floating face down. They turned the boat around to look for him, but were unable to locate him. Law enforcement was contacted and the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission and the St. Cloud Police Department began searching the water until dark.

This morning at 5:00 a.m., officials continued searching a 2 square-foot mile area. With the assistance of the Fish and Wildlife Commission and the St. Cloud Police Department, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office Agriculture/Marine Unit and Aviation Unit will continue the investigation and search throughout the day. Additional updates will be provided when they become available.
