Detectives Arrest Mother for Child Neglect
Osceola County, Florida – On February 26 at approximately 10:25 a.m., Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of Myakka Avenue in Kissimmee. Upon arrival, they located two young girls ages 7 and 9 walking door to door. They told the deputies, “We are out selling toys to help mommy stay in the house.” They did not know their physical address and also told deputies they missed the bus to go to school. The girls were able to direct the deputies to their residence which was two blocks, approximately ½ mile, away.
Once at the residence, the deputies found the girls’ mother, identified as April Emery. She was sleeping in her bedroom and thought her daughters were at school. When deputies told her they found her daughters walking around, she told them, “Well they should know better, it’s their job to wake me up in the morning to get ready for school.” She did not seem concerned her children could have been in danger or possibly hurt. Based on the information, Emery was arrested and charged with Child Neglect without Great Bodily Harm. She was booked into the Osceola County Jail with $1,000 bond. The children were placed with another family member and the Department of Children and Families was notified.
April Emery (DOB 4/2/87), specific address is exempt to protect the identity of the victims
