Osceola County, Florida - This morning, a Bench Warrant was issued to revoke bond for Matthew Scheidt on his original Impersonating a Physician charges. Scheidt is currently in the Miami-Dade Correctional Facility after being re-arrested last night on an Osceola County felony warrant for Grand Theft. Law enforcement located Scheidt at a friend's residence in Homestead. Based on the new warrant, Scheidt should remain in jail until he is extradited to Osceola County, which at the earliest would be next week. Osceola County Sheriff's detectives are in Miami-Dade County continuing the investigation.
Background:
On January 19, Osceola County Sheriff's detectives obtained a felony warrant for Grand Theft for Matthew Thomas Scheidt. On January 19, Osceola County Sheriff's detectives were contacted by the Miami Beach Police Department regarding the arrest of Scheidt for Impersonating a Police Officer. Miami Beach police officers indicated Scheidt had in his possession a badge, law enforcement equipment and several identification cards. Osceola County detectives confirmed a non-functioning Motorola radio and one of the identification cards belonged to the Sheriff's Office. The identification card, indicating Scheidt was in the Explorer Program, was reported missing by Scheidt in 2010. At this time, it does not appear the other equipment in Scheidt's possession belongs to any law enforcement agencies but was obtained by Scheidt independently.
After further investigation, detectives determined Scheidt stole the non-functioning radio from the Sheriff's Office and they were able to obtain a felony warrant for his arrest. Osceola County Sheriff's deputies have traveled to Miami Beach to further the investigation.
Scheidt was in the Explorers Program from 2007 until he was terminated from the volunteer program in 2010 for violating policies. The Explorers Program is a volunteer program for teens and young adults, ages 14-21 and allows them to work with law enforcement and the community.
